CHANTILLY, Va. (7News) — Honor Brewery in Chantilly is helping to change the lives of veterans in an upcoming event called Puppies and Beer which will help support future service dogs.
It’s all inspired by a local veteran, Robert Murafsky, who was seriously wounded in Iraq before his dog saved his life.
Murafsky knows firsthand what it’s like to suffer from PTSD after he was wounded on his second tour in Iraq.
The Army veteran was wounded in Iraq, before coming back to receive treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center where he met his wife Allison.
“I am still recovering and every day I get a little bit better,” Murafsky said.
Part of that recovery is his five-year-old service dog named Monsoon who he received through Leashes of Valor.
The nonprofit provides highly-trained service dogs to wounded veterans at no cost. See more.
