Foster with LOV. Change a life.

Thank you for your interest in fostering a future service dog with Leashes of Valor. Our robust foster program is a vital component of our organization, allowing us to dramatically reduce the cost of raising these dogs so that we can continue to provide them at no cost to veterans.

Our service dogs receive up to two years of training before they are paired with their warrior. During that time, dogs live with foster families, who give them love and care, help maintain their current skill set, and expose them to the energy and routines of a home environment.

Fosters typically care for a dog for two to three months before the animal is rotated to a different household, although we also need short-term and occasional fosters to fill in when our full-time fosters are unavailable. We provide fosters with everything they need while the dog is in their care, including food, supplies, and veterinary care.

Foster Requirements

To foster, we ask that you:

• Live within 60 miles of the Fredericksburg or Richmond, Virginia, area
• Commit to at least one one-hour training session per week (we make every effort to provide multiple options to fit your schedule)
• Provide a loving home environment for the dog in your care
